EFCC Arrests Fowler Over Embezzlement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested the former chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babatunde Fowler, on charges of suspected N5 billion fraud committed under his supervision.

Fowler, a long-standing ally of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, is reportedly being grilled at the Lagos office of the EFCC.

Fowler was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 after calling for tax revenue to deteriorate after 2015.

He was also accused of a luxurious lifestyle, bankrolling expensive events and concerts in Lagos, bad corporate governance systems at FIRS, poor audits at FIRS, high hand in office, diversion of money, blatant collusion and granting contracts to stooges and comrades.
